2022 GOOD WORKS RECAP
We recognize that the most significant impact happens when we work at the intersection of community needs, employee interests, and company priorities.

FINANCIAL GIVING
Direct Grants
Throughout the year, The Brick Companies Foundation, with the help of TBC, provided valuable resources through financial donations to nineteen organizations totaling more than $163,000.

Some of The Brick Companies' larger gifts:
$130,000 to Luminis Health’s J Kent McNew Center - a stand-alone mental health facility that provides inpatient and outpatient mental health services in Anne Arundel County
$10,000 to Anne Arundel Community College for The Brick Companies Scholarship in Honor of Marjorie Kingsman Groom, making the scholarship the first-ever endowed scholarship at AACC that supports students pursuing workforce development programs

$2,500 to Volunteer Florida for The Florida Disaster Fund to help those affected by Hurricane Ian
Employee Matching Program
The Brick Companies is proud to support the philanthropic efforts of our employees with our matching program. In 2022, six employees took advantage of this initiative, and TBC matched $3,028 dollars in contributions.
GivHero
Our GivHero program combines two priorities important to the company: wellness and giving back. We recognize that healthy employees are the key to a healthy workplace and successful business. Our partnership with GivHero motivates our employees to get moving while giving back to the community. It is simple. Employees download the app and log their steps. If they reach the company’s goal, $1 is donated to their chosen charity. Through this program in 2022, we have donated $6,449 to local charities, and our 32 heroes (employees) have logged 73,723,929 steps.
Environmental Initiatives
Our environmental best practices at each of our properties play a significant part in the Good Works culture.
Queenstown Harbor
Solar Panels – So far this year, Queenstown’s solar array has produced 76,507.6 kWh, that's the equivalent of powering five, average use, 1,500 sq. ft homes for an entire year!

Bermuda Grass – The fairway renovation on the River Course over the summer replaced the existing fairways with Tahoma 31 Bermuda grass. This improvement impacts the environment daily by decreasing the need for pesticides, fertilizers, and water.
Atlantic Marinas
Clean Marinas Certification – All three locations are once again certified clean marinas, meeting the rigorous pollution prevention standards established by the Maryland Clean Marina Committee and the Department of Natural Resources.

Oyster Gardening – Atlantic Marinas proudly participates in an annual oyster gardening program through the Magothy River Association and the Chesapeake Bay Foundation. Spat (tiny baby oysters growing on spent shells) batches are added to cages suspended under the marina docks. Once the oysters have grown, they are placed onto protected local oyster reefs, where they will improve the water quality.
Commercial Real Estate
Beehive – Our rooftop beehive at Lakefront in Gaithersburg helps support the pollinator population while engaging and educating our employees and tenants. Our one hive is home to 21,000 honeybees.

UL Verified Healthy Buildings – Three commercial real estate properties, Edgewater, Rockville, and Tysons Corner, attained verification for healthy air. These facilities participated in a thorough evaluation process that included an audit, on-site inspections, visual inspection, and Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) performance testing, among other assessments. This certification shows that these buildings have excellent indoor air quality.
Employee Resource Groups
The Brick Companies has created employee resource groups to engage our employees and their passions to have the greatest impact on the company and the community. Look for these groups to be the drivers of our Good Works in 2023.
